Political and Revolutionary Context of Rahat Malik’s Ghazal

Abstract

Rahat Malik (1929-2012) was an eminent Poet, Journalist and Politician. He held the office of District President and General Secretary of the Pakistan People's Party for Gujrat. He is also known as a zealous and dedicated Labour Leader. He lived all his life fighting against injustice, oppression, feudalism and economic/social inequality. Turning away from Ahmadiyyat and embracing the light of Islam is the brightest side of his personality. His life significantly influenced his poetry. Politics, revolution and resistance are the main references in his poetry.  In this research article, his poetry (Ghazals) has been analyzed in the context of his political thoughts and affiliations. In addition, his personal life and family background has also been highlighted.
