A Review of The Principles of Family in Islam and The Laws of Punjab Province Against Domestic Violence
اسلام میں خاندان کے اصول اور گھریلو تشدد کے خلاف صوبہ پنجاب کےقوانین کا جائزہ
Abstract
The concept of family in Islam is a fundamental and crucial social institution that emphasizes love, cooperation, and societal stability. In light of the Quran and Sunnah, there is a clear directive to ensure respect, rights, and fulfilment of duties among family members. The guidelines provided for the rights and duties between husband and wife, the relationships between parents and children, and interactions with other close relatives are key elements of Islamic teachings. Islam does not tolerate domestic violence and strongly condemns it. The Quran and Sunnah explicitly protect the rights of women and children and prohibit any form of physical or mental abuse. In Punjab, significant legal measures against domestic violence include the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016, which provides immediate shelter, medical care, and legal assistance to affected women. Additionally, under the Punjab Family Courts Act 2015, the speed of case hearings and decisions in family courts has been expedited to resolve domestic violence cases more swiftly. The Punjab Women Protection Cell is also an important institution that offers legal consultation, protection, and support to affected women and helps them connect with the police and other relevant agencies. These laws and institutions provide effective measures for the prevention of domestic violence and support for victims in accordance with Islamic teachings, playing a crucial role in promoting social justice.
