Abstract

Anees Nagi is one of the greatest writer, critic, columnist and a novelist. He is considered among the pioneers of the Movement of Lisani Tashkilat .He is known as a symbolic writer. Both his poetry and prose have a great symbolic touch. Among all of his achievements in literature, Shairy Lisaniat is worth mentioning. With Jelani Kamran and Zafar Iqbal, he initiated a new diction and phraseology for the poetry. He firmly believed that old words have lost their value for the present poetic diction. They should be replaced by new words and new phrases. He divided his book Shairy Lisaniat into 12 chapters. According to him symbols and metaphors play an important role in understanding words and their meaning. When word is created for more than one meaning, there is created a duality of references. He cited the verses of Ghalib, Faiz, Rashid and other eminent poets to support his arguments. He further says that in poetry a word can be understood by its context it is not so in the case of prose. He is of the view that similarities and contradictions are two important phenomenon of life and both these are present in poetry and communication .Anees Nagi formulated a new structure of language which suits the present system of language and literature .After 1960 a wave came in Urdu literature for the demand of new pattern of linguistics. Jelani Kaman , Zafar Iqbal and Anees Nagi stepped forward for the creation of new diction and new phrases for literature particularly for poetry .Thus a new era of Urdu Literature began by the efforts of great people like Anees Nagi.
