Abstract

Sajjad Baqir Rizvi is an eminent poet, critic, translator and expert educationist. He wished to see great human behavior around him. He struggled all his life for this cause. He has an attractive personality. Sajjad Baqir Rizvi started his teaching career from Islamia College as lecturer in English and later joined Oriental college as lecturer in urdu.He wrote many publications including Taisha.i.Lafz and Joo.I .Maani(poetry collection) and Tahzib.o.Takhliq but he earned his great fame due to his prominent critical work Maghrib Kay Tanqidi Asool. He tried his best to cover critical work from Aristotle to Eliot. It is considered the first work highlighting the principles of western Criticism starting from Greek philosophers and critics Aristotle and Plato. He did not follow the traditional way of criticism rather he paved a new path for himself. He was in favour of grand values in criticism. He also discussed Longinus and Dante then some English critics like Sidney, Johnson, Dryden and Eliot, Wordsworth, Coleridge and Edger Allan Poe. He discussed in detail their critical view on different form of literature. He studied original texts of these critics and summed up their views in a logical manner.  Urdu critics got much guideline from this book because it proved to be a miles stone for the Urdu Critics. He became the pioneer in the field criticism. He made it easy for the readers and writers to study Western principles of criticism.
